It’s Time For Another Diary of A Wimpy Kid Book Review

Book Reviews

Author Jeff Kinney is back with another book in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. Big Shot. This time the book is all about sports.

Knowing the main character, Greg Heffley, I could almost guarantee that sports would not be up his alley. But Greg’s mom has other ideas. Team sports are good for building character, blah, blah, blah… So Greg must attempt to try another team sport to please his mother.

When Greg hears that there will be more kids trying out for the basketball team than available spaces, he decides this would be his sport. Afterall, what could his mom do if he didn’t even make the team? His mother is thrilled with the idea of basketball. She played on her school’s team. Perhaps talent for this sport runs in the family.

Things go just as poorly at tryouts as Greg expected but (and there’s always a but) unexpected circumstances come into play and lead to… To find out more, grab a copy of Diary of a Wimpy Kid Big Shot.

As always, Happy Reading!

My Take on…Diary of a Wimpy Kid – The Deep End

Book Reviews

Jeff Kinney is at it again. His latest book, Diary of a Wimpy Kid The Deep End, is out. I pre-ordered my copy and happily found it in my mailbox a few days ago. I just finished reading the book. Being a fan of the series, I knew things would not go smoothly for the Heffley family. Of course, I was correct.

The story picks-up where we left off in the last book, Wrecking Ball. With the Heffley house left in shambles, they are forced to move-in with Gramma. Of course, this leads them into close quarters and in the needs of a vacation. Having seen how the Heffley’s other vacations have turned out, it was no surprise that this vacation would not exatcly find the Heffley family in paradise. However, when Greg’s mom is determined to do something, do it they do.

Pick-up a copy of Diary of a Wimpy Kid The Deep End, and join the Heffley family on their RV road trip. With the Covid pandemic, I think we can all feel a bit of what Greg and his family are going through on their vacation. But don’t forget to laugh.

As always, Happy Reading!

My Take on Diary of a Wimpy Kid – Wrecking Ball

Book Reviews

Well Diary of a Wimpy Kid fans, the new book Wrecking Ball has hit the shelves. This is the 14th book in the series. Jeff Kinney’s latest book has the Heffley family attending a funeral and receiving an unexpected inheritance. Greg’s mom has big ideas for the inheritance. This seems a dream come true but knowing the Heffley family’s luck… To find out more, pick up a copy of Wrecking Ball.

While the latest book is good, I did not find it as side-splitting funny as some of the previous books in the series. This could be due to the fact that the book was written more about the family’s adventure and not just Greg’s life as a kid going to school and getting into mischief. Having said that, Wrecking Ball is still worth a read. Happy Reading!

My Take on the Diary of a Wimpy Kid Series

Book Reviews

You know how there are some books that really have no age limits? Well, in my opinion, the Diary of a Wimpy Kid Series by Jeff Kinney fits the bill. Kinney’s books may be stocked in the kid section of the bookstore, but that doesn’t mean you can’t shop there if you are not a kid.

I will be the first to admit that I am a HUGE Diary of a Wimpy Kid fan. My obsession started when I bought a copy for my son. Then somehow or other I was enticed into reading it and it was all over from there. I know that the new books usually come out in November and am at the bookstore to get my copy the day they put them on the shelves. Last year, I was even one of the first so many customers to purchase one and got a hat to go along with it!

Perhaps one of the reasons I am so drawn to this series is that they are written by someone of a similar age to myself (Kinney was born in 1971) and I can totally relate to the school scenes created with the main character Greg Heffley. Also, is the fact that the books are so darn funny. They are laugh out loud funny. They are can’t put them down but need to ration them because the next one will not come out for another year funny.

The books are written in a comic book / diary format. They come in hard cover only. Basically they are about Greg Heffley and his family and Greg’s best friend Rowely and his parents. There are other kids in the neighborhood and at school. Greg and Rowely do not always have the best of luck which makes for some funny scenes. Some of the books also take place on family vacations. Of course, they are loaded with lessons to be learned by the mistakes the characters make.

So come November, I will be counting down the days until the next book comes out to see what Greg and Rowely are up to now. If you are timid about purchasing a children’s book for yourself, say it’s for your kids. No kids? Maybe it’s for your nephew…niece…you get the point. See you in line!
